THE Sierra Nevada ski resort has invested €9 million as it gears up for another exciting season on the slopes.
Cash injections for snow management, restoration work, tracks and more, promise to make this one of the best winters ever.
The announcements were made by CEO of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Jesus Ibañez at the presentation of the 2019/20 winter season in Madrid.
Also included in investment plans, which will be formalised on November 23, is a transformation of the Borreguiles area.
More details of the 3,300-metre altitude site, which is just two hours from Marbella and half an hour from Granada can be found below:
Ski lifts – Information screens are now fitted to lifts, as well as at some of the lower stations and in the car park.
Tracks – The Department of Pistas has marked out a new route from the summit of Veleta to Pradollano, linking tracks on the south slope. Meanwhile a second route for mountain skiing has been created through Loma de Dilar, following popular demand.
Snow – A total of 33 new snow cannons can now produce the same amount of snow in half the time, meaning the environment benefits as well as skiers.
Food and drink – A new Domino’s Pizza restaurant at Ts Monachil and an extension and new San Miguel ‘tasting station’ at La Bodega in Pradollano make this one of the tastiest seasons ever.
Competitions – The Sierra Nevada will this year run around 30 events, including Snowrunning (snow mountain race), Potholes (freestyle), School (alpine skiing) and Veterans (alpine skiing). But perhaps the most exciting will be the Snowboardcross event, on March 6 and 7, 2020, featuring legendary athletes like Lucas Eguibar and Regino Hernandez.
