RENFE will launch a new ‘low cost’ service from 2019.
The high-speed train, which travels from Malaga to Barcelona, Madrid and elsewhere, will be selling tickets at 20-25% cheaper than current rates.
The move is designed to attract more young passengers.
Development minister Íñigo de la Serna announced today that the new AVE service will begin to circulate on the Madrid-Barcelona line and will have El Prat de Llobregat as an operations center.
Renfe plans to start this ‘low cost’ AVE with an offer of five daily frequencies per direction and thus transport 1.05 million passengers per year.
The operator wants to progressively extend the new EVA from Madrid-Barcelona to other high-speed lines.
